Big-Wave Surfing (Tow In)

For anyone reading this who doesn’t know, let me briefly explain... Tow In surfing is when surfers use a (PWC) to tow each other onto waves that are really big.

Alastair Mennie

Tow surfing has opened up lots of doors for me and lots of other people who surf big waves. It has allowed us to access and ride waves that were not deemed ‘surfable’ before tow surfing was invented. Now we go way off the coast, surf waves that lurch really quickly and make paddling into them difficult or if it is really windy, which it generally is up here in the north Atlantic, then we can overcome the conditions using team work and ride lots of really big waves. I’m not one of the surfers that says ‘Never tow’, I use whatever method I think is most suitable and safest on the day and I make sure I am well prepared to do either.
